FROM PLUGGING IN TO YOUR FIRST TAKE

Your cameras.
Set up with confidence.

Work through one step at a time. Check the result before moving on, and use the help below if something does not look right.

Planning your setup? Start with steps 1 and 2. App steps are for an approved GazeCut build supplied to you. Public downloads are not open yet.

STEP 1

Prepare your space.

Plug your laptop into power. Put the cameras on stable supports at distinct angles, with each lens near eye level. Sit where you will record, with light on your face rather than a bright window behind you.

Start with two cameras and one microphone. Close video-call and camera apps. Choose a local recording folder with space for both the original recordings and the finished video.

Check: You can turn comfortably toward each lens, and the cameras will stay in place.

I am not sure my computer is suitable.

The first beta targets Windows 11 x64 and Ubuntu/Pop!_OS 24.04 x86_64. Tell support your operating system and camera models before buying equipment or accepting a place. macOS is not in the first supported group. A target platform alone does not guarantee enough capacity for two 4K feeds.

STEP 2

Give each camera a good connection.

For two 4K cameras, start with each connected directly to a suitable computer USB port, using the camera maker's recommended data cables. A USB-C plug describes the connector shape, not its data speed. A charging cable may not carry the video you need.

Camera 1 Computer USB port

Camera 2 Another computer USB port

Keyboard and mouse Hub, if needed

If a monitor occupies USB-C, check whether suitable USB-A ports and manufacturer-approved data cables are available for the cameras. Avoid putting both 4K cameras through a shared hub as your first setup.

Two sockets can still share bandwidth inside the computer. Some hubs can carry both cameras, but a powered hub adds power, not extra capacity to its shared computer connection. The camera format, frame rate, cables, hub and computer all matter.

Check in GazeCut: Both live views remain available together and the device check completes. Selecting "4K" alone does not prove that both cameras are delivering it.

One camera is missing, freezes or drops to a lower resolution.
  1. Test each camera alone to check its cable and port.
  2. Connect both directly, try a different computer port and rerun the device check.
  3. Disconnect other high-bandwidth devices you do not need for the test. Do not unplug a drive while recording or saving.
  4. If needed, try a lower resolution or frame rate offered in Advanced capture settings, then check both views again.
  5. If each works alone but not together, stop and ask support to review the shared connection before buying a hub.

Change one thing at a time so you can tell what helped.

STEP 3

Know which camera is which.

Open Test my setup. Select your cameras and one microphone. Use Identify beside each camera and briefly cover that lens to confirm its view. Identical camera models can have similar names.

Speak at your normal presentation volume. Watch the microphone meter and use Check sound. Make sure the selected microphone is the one you intend to use.

Check: Each selected camera shows a different intended angle. Your microphone responds when you speak. Re-identify cameras after reconnecting them.

The picture is black or the microphone is quiet.

Check lens covers, microphone mute and the selected devices. Close other apps using them and check operating-system camera/microphone permissions. Reconnect the affected device and select it again. If the device works elsewhere but not here, contact support with the exact message.

STEP 4

Teach GazeCut your camera directions.

Choose Teach my camera views. Let the device check finish. For each highlighted camera, select Start Camera N, turn your head toward that lens and hold still until the lesson advances.

Repeat for every camera, then name the setup and choose Save profile and continue. Use your normal filming seat and posture.

Check: The lesson completed for every camera and you reached READY TO FILM.

The lesson fails or switching does not follow me.

Light your face clearly and keep it visible. Turn your head toward the lens, rather than only moving your eyes. Keep the angles distinct. If a camera, your chair or your usual position moved, teach the views again. GazeCut follows head direction; it does not promise to anticipate a look.

STEP 5

Make a one-minute test.

Name it "Setup test". Start with camera-only recording and the default directing response. Select Start recording and wait for RECORDING before speaking.

Speak normally. Turn your head toward Camera 1, then Camera 2, holding each direction for a few seconds. Repeat. Select Finish and create video, keep GazeCut open while it finishes, then choose Open video.

Check the saved video: Both intended angles appear, camera changes follow your turns, speech is clear and in sync, and the picture does not freeze.

Only one angle appears in the finished video.

During a short retry, check that automatic switching is enabled; use Resume automatic if a camera is locked. Try the camera buttons to see whether both views are available. If a view is missing, return to the connection check. If manual selection works but head turns do not, teach camera directions again from your filming position.

The video stutters, sounds wrong or does not finish.

Check that the intended microphone is selected, the local drive has free space and other demanding apps are closed. If the issue appears only with both cameras, revisit the USB connection step and try a lower capture setting. Keep the complete session folder if video creation fails; do not delete your originals. Contact support before an important recording.

STEP 6

Check your result before the real take.

Tick only what you have checked yourself

Keep the same cables, ports, camera positions and filming position for your next take. Repeat the relevant checks whenever you move or reconnect equipment. Add a third camera or screen sharing only after this basic setup works, then make another short test.

Still stuck? Email support@gazecut.com. Include the step that failed, operating system, camera models, whether a hub is involved and the exact error. Leave out recordings, serial numbers and licence files unless support agrees a specific need with you.
